Sadly, Michigan fell to Vandy last night in the decisive third game of the College World Series.  Hell of a run though.

Houston is targeting Jimmy Butler?  Basically, they would have to strip much of their depth to make it happen.  Lack of depth certainly came back to bite the Warriors this season.  And can you imagine a locker room with Harden, Paul and Harden?  I don't see how they navigate a full season without it blowing up in their face.

Today's lone package is an eBay purchase from Hoody's Collectibles.  I won a Chris Webber auction and then took advantage of the shipping discount and added several more Michigan cards.  A pair of Webber's to begin; a 2001-02 Fleer Force insert (SN699) and a 2018-19 Select insert (MEM, SN49):


The next Michigan name I usually search for after Chris Webber is Glen Rice.  Hoody's had three I added to my collection; 2016-17 Absolute (MEM, SN149), 2018-19 Cornerstones (MEM), and 2018-19 National Treasures (MEM, SN99):

I have more Glen Rice MEM cards in my collection than any other player.

Finally, single additions for Mo Wagner, DJ Wilson, and Charles Woodson:

The Wagner is a 2018-19 Cornerstones (MEM), the Wilson is a 2017-18 Noir (MEM, SN99), and the Woodson is 2015 Crown Royale parallel (SN99).  I absolutely love Noir, it's usually my favorite release each year, so the Wilson is a nice pick up.  The Wagner might be my first Lakers MEM.  I like how the yellow piece pops against the predominantly purple background.

A decisive Game 3 between Michigan and Vandy tonight out in Omaha.  UM played a sloppy game last night (errors, passed balls/wild pitches, etc)  Hopefully they can reorganize and put forth a solid effort tonight.

Finally getting around to logging the wbaker01 package that arrived on Friday the 21st.   A few 1980s Topps baseball set builders kick things off; one from 1983 (69.9%)and ten from 1984 (97.5%):


An assortment of basketball set builders follows and covers of wide array of sets from 1991-92 through 1999-00:
        

The big news here is that I now have complete 1991-92 Fleer set!

We move on to football set builders for 1984 Topps (99.5%), 1991 Pro Set (81.4%), and 1991 Score (99.9%):


The final set builder in this package is from Series 1 of the 1989 Topps Batman set (46.2%):

I loved this movie when it came out and purchased a decent number of Series 1 cards, but I never purchased any Series 2 cards.

Watching:  Michigan vs Vanderbilt (College World Series Final Game 2) on ESPN

Big sports night last night.  The Wolverines took Game 1 from Vandy in Omaha.  They are now one win away from a title.  Vandy's ace is on the mound tonight so it could be tough sledding tonight for UM.  And Giannis won MVP honors at the NBA Awards.  Great speech from a genuine kid.

I received three single card eBay purchases today.

1. The first SN card I have added to Owen's collection - a Finest parallel of Yelich that carries a SN150:
   
   
2. In what has become an almost daily ritual, I picked up yet another Webber Prizm parallel.  This Purple Ice version is SN149:
   
   
3. The final eBay purchase is a card I have been trying to hunt down for about two years.  I have bid on several but this is the first time I was successful.  This 95-96 Flair Hot Numbers insert is pretty sweet as it has a Sportflics appeal:

Quick little weekend visit to the Cities with our daughter.  We rode some rides at Como Town on Saturday and then saw Hugh Jackman at Xcel on Saturday night.  On Sunday we visited the Como Zoo.

NBA Awards later tonight.  Fingers crossed Giannis wins MVP.

Received two packages over the weekend; both eBay purchases.  A pair of small Michigan lots comprises the first package.  The first lot - MEM cards for seven different players:

Watching:  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (I had hoped to watch the NHL Draft but was outvoted)

How about that NBA Draft?  Quick hits:

• The floral print suits.  Whoa.
• Bol Bol's suit.  I don't think I could pull that off.
• Atlanta moving up to take Hunter.  Nice pick; nice fit.
• Cleveland taking Garland one year after taking Sexton.  Two PGs?
• Bulls take Coby White.  Good bye Dunn?
• Reddish to the Hawks at 10.  Another nice pick.
• Jordan Poole goes 28 to Golden State.  Surprised to see a Wolverine go in the 1st Round but it feels like a good fit for him.
• The Bucks traded out of the #30 spot.  I was actually happy because I was scared they may take Bol Bol and we would relive the whole Thon Maker experiment.
• Bol Bol falling out of the first round.
• Wolverine Iggy Brazdeikis goes to the Knicks in the second round.
• Wolverine Charles Matthews goes undrafted.  Always had my doubts that he would be drafted but the recent ACL injury clinched it.
• Tacko Fall goes undrafted.  I hope he catches on with someone.

First up, two additions for Owen's collection.  We have the 2019 Finest base and refractor for Christian Yelich:

If I could change one thing about the current state of basketball card offerings it would the reintroduction of Finest.  I love old Finest basketball cards.  So picking this pair up feels kind of good.

Next up, yet another in the never-ending stream of 2018-19 Prizm parallels.  This Webber is the Choice Red version and carries a SN88:

Today's fourth package, and lone trade, comes via wbaker01.  I haven't had a chance to update my TCDB records and photograph the 400 cards so this probably won't be covered for a couple of days.  Cliffhanger!

Looking Through Patient Eyes: A Five PWE Day

Owen is nearly eight weeks old so this morning I placed him in the jogging stroller and we went for our first run/jog.  Adding the stroller to the mix is a bit of workout and mucks up your pace.  I was happy to hit the 3 mile mark (technically 2.96) and be done.

I wonder if ESPN will ever devote any airtime to discussing the NBA Draft.  Good God.  It feels like 90% of their programming has centered around it.  Zion, Zion, Zion.  I'm an NBA fan and I'm looking forward to the draft, there should be some good drama tonight, but you can only dissect and forecast so much.  Let Woj get some sleep for Christ's sake!

My absolute #1 primary collecting goal is to try and obtain a copy of every Chris Webber card printed.  Completely unrealistic this day in age with all of the parallels and the SN1, SN5, SN10, etc cards.  I would really like to get one printing plate for my collection and call it good.  Just one.  A few have popped up over the past month or so on eBay.  I've come close to winning on two occasions but sadly missed out.  They typically go for around $50; sometimes more.

dcdeacon is the first the member with whom I traded on TCDB and his name is Pete.  He's gotta be a great guy!

5. The day's fifth and final PWE comes via John5150. Our second trade added some nice mid to late 90s basketball set builders to my collection, including some nice Lakers era Shaq's:

Mike Conley is going to Utah.  I don’t know.  This trade would have had serious impact say five years ago.  Given Conley’s advancing age and recent injuries I’m not sure he’s a significant upgrade, or the piece that puts them in title contention.

While searching Chris Webber offerings on eBay last week I stumbled upon a listing offering 2015-16 Donruss Statline parallels for both his Rebounding (SN98) and Scoring Kings (SN207) cards:

Of course, I snatched the pair right up.
