Heritage "phat" pack and welcome back college football

Watching:  Middle Tennessee St. at Michigan on BTN

College football returned today.  The opening slate of games though is lacking; only one top 25 match-up.  Bama started slowly this afternoon, but Tua found his rhythm.  The Tide's O-Line looked less than dominant at times.  Could be an issue against stiffer competition.  Michigan is frustrating the heck out of me.  Two turnovers have led to 14 MTSU points.  The new high paced offense we've heard so much about looks much like last year's.  Shea Patterson is still inconsistent.  I felt last year, he's a good QB, but he's not an elite QB, the kind that can make the play to win the big game against an elite team.  I really wish Harbaugh would develop Dylan McCaffrey to be the guy going forward.

As with most Saturday mornings, I found myself running errands and popping into Target.  The card section was nicely stocked today so I picked up some packs for Owen's collection:

Michigan appears to have this one in hand, but I'm unimpressed.  The team I'm seeing right now against MTSU has no chance of beating the Buckeyes.  We need to some serious growth over the next ten games.  Next week's contest against Army has me concerned.  That's a tough offense to prepare for.  Two big tilts next Saturday; Texas A&M-Clemson and Texas-LSU.

I actually picked up this second package on Tuesday.  I have spent the past two evenings working my way through it.  My eighth trade with tenlbpain is a doozy.  Nick proposed this trade and sent me over 800 cards:

The bulk of the trade is devoted to basketball set builders.  A myriad of sets from across the 90s are covered, but Nick also included a nice stack of 88-89 Fleer and a few 18-19 Hoops:

I took the afternoon off to get Harper's teeth cleaned and then to get the car serviced.  In between appointments we stopped by Target to pick up a coloring book so Harper would have something to do while we waited for the car.  Of course, I could not leave empty handed:

I opened the Archives pack first and the card sitting on top of the stack was none other than Vlad Jr.  In total I picked up seven cards from the Archives fat pack for Owen's collection:

Owen's collection gained six cards from the Heritage Series 2 fat pack, including a Tatis Jr insert:

Since June 1 nine Webber printing plates have been listed on eBay.  I bid on the first eight and lost them all.  A couple I lost in the final seconds.  Painful.  Last week one appeared with a Buy It Now option and I took the plunge.  Some of the previous plates looked nicer, or at the very least more interesting, but I am thrilled to finally have a Webber printing plate.

Chasing a white whale; colored TP

Another little lull in posting.  To be expected after taking about a week off from sending out offers.  I have sent about a dozen trades out this week so we should have a nice, steady stream of cards to cover in the coming week or two.

I failed to mention on Monday that I missed out on yet another Chris Webber printing plate on eBay.  Basically, it feels like one pops up for bidding every ten days or so.  Initially, they were going for just over $50.  Lately, they’ve been selling for $60, $70, even $80.  That’s nuts.  A Webber printing plate, at a somewhat reasonable price, has become my white whale.

We were watching Despicable Me 3 on Netflix the other night for about the fifth time in the last two weeks and Harper pointed out that the minions had pink toilet paper.  

I thought for a moment and said, “Do they make colored toilet paper anymore?  You go to the store and the shelves are stocked with nothing but white TP.”  My wife, who is only four years younger than me, responded with something like, “What do you mean ‘anymore’?”  I told her I remembered colored TP as a kid, but she did not.  So I had to Google it and prove to her that colored TP was an option when we were growing up.  By the late 80s it had largely been phased out.
