Louder Than a Bomb: 1990s Basketball Additions

Listening:  Public Enemy, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

I was called upon to make another Target run.  I didn't pick up anything for myself, but did grab a Heritage hanger box for Owen's collection:

My first trade with TCDB member klimczak is today's lone package.  The bulk of the trade is devoted to 1990s basketball set builders, beginning with a nice stack of 1994-95 Topps:

A nice assortment of 1995-96 sets follows:

Some 1996-97 additions:

The basketball cards conclude with some 1997-98 Topps and Upper Deck, one from 1999-00, and five from 2012-13 Hoops:

A single football set builder.  This Willie Gault leaves me just two cards shy of completing the 1990 Topps set:

Hockey set builders include 1992-93 Ultra and Upper Deck:

With the set building covered, we now move on to personal collections.  Some nice football additions for the Michigan collection:

And a pair of Belfour's for the Hawks collection:

Welcome Home, Owen!

Watching:  Friends on TBS

It's been a few days since I last posted.  I even missed my weekly Random Wolverine post.  My absence is for good reason though as Owen Kenneth entered the world on Friday evening:

So "Junior's" collection officially becomes Owen's collection.

Home from work today as we try to find a new routine.  Let's play catch up then.  Three packages in total arrived over the course of Friday and Saturday.  The first is a single card purchase for Owen's collection - a 2019 Topps Yelich parallel:

The second package is my first trade with TCDB member Philallins.  A strictly hockey trade includes Michigan additions:

A few Hawks additions:

And a few top players from 2018-19 for Owen's collection:

The third package is my first trade with TCDB member royals.  A few baseball set builders ti begin:

With the remainder of the trade devoted to Michigan football additions:

Yesterday we were discharged from the hospital and returned home.  Shortly after that I had to make a Target run.  I picked up a pack of 2019 Diamond Kings for Owen's collection:

And some 2018-19 Threads for me:

The 10 pack included 7 base cards

A pair of inserts and a parallel:

The blaster included 20 base cards:

5 base SPs:

Inserts and parallels include:

And last but not least, a Giannis base:

My First "Old 98"!

Watching:  Next Gen on Netflix

The Bucks swept the Pistons last night.  A much more formidable foe now awaits; the Celtics.  Brogdon's return we would be a welcome site.

Two small PWEs in the mail today; both trades with TCDB members.  My sixth trade with capper14 leads the night off.  A few set builders to start:

Then a pair of Michigan basketball additions:

That Levert really "explodes".  And the trade concludes with a Giannis:

Tonight's second trade is a single card acquisition and my third trade with TheMacman513.  While it is only one card it is noteworthy as it is my first of "Old 98" for the Michigan collection:

Hopefully Harmon pops up soon during one of my Sunday posts as he led quite a life.

Fleer Football Additions. No. Seriously.

Watching:  Bucks Live Pregame on Fox Sports Wisconsin

"Junior" is supposed to arrive this week.  I have made a concerted effort over the past month or two to maximize my trading as I'm sure his arrival will impact the time I can devote to trading.  When our daughter was born in 2014 I had yet to to resume collecting so juggling a new baby and card collecting will be a new experience.

The Bucks go for the sweep tonight in Detroit.  Giannis had a very pedestrian outing in Game 3 yet the Bucks still won comfortably.  If the Bucks advance to the second round they will face Boston; the team that ousted them in seven games last year.

Today's lone package is my fifth trade with TCDB member DukeyDevil.  Fleer football set builders for both 1990 and 1991:

The 1990 set is pretty good while the 1991 set is pretty bad, much like their baseball effort that year.  Just a hunch, but I'm sure TCDB members are more than happy to send cards from these two sets my way.  They probably get the same feeling I do when I can mail out some 1989 Donruss baseball cards.

Random Wolverine Card Sunday - Edition Six

Watching:  Pinkalicious & Peterrific on PBS Kids

The sixth installment of Random Wolverine Card Sunday delivers...

a 2003-04 Upper Deck Steve Shields.  Our first hockey player.  Steve served as goalie during the early 1990s as Red Berenson returned UM to national prominence.  The team made the Frozen Four during two of Steve's four seasons in Ann Arbor and Steve became the first college goalie to amass 100 career wins.  After leaving UM Steve bounced around the NHL for a decade with his longest stretches coming in Buffalo and San Jose.  Steve returned to UM several years ago as a Volunteer Assistant Coach and is expected to continue in that role next year.

The Weather is Here...

Listening:  Eric & Rakim Paid In Full

The weather is far too nice today to spend it pouring over cards.  We will move quickly through today's two packages - both trades with TCDB members.

First up, my third trade with sholtz21.  A few baseball set builders to start:

Jeez, will I ever complete the above sets?  And then one addition to the Hawks collection:

The second package is my first trade with Pennytendencies.  Some early 90s hockey set builders - all Habs:

And a French hockey addition to the Michigan collection:

Good Thing I Checked the Mailbox First Today

Watching:  Around the Horn on ESPN2

Five, count 'em, five packages in the mail today - all trades with TCDB members.  Thank God I was able to check the mailbox before my wife.  She would have blown a gasket if she had opened the mailbox to see five packages of cards.  For my own self-preservation it might be time to consider renting a PO box.  As for reviewing the contents of these trades, a numbered list seems the cleanest way of attacking these five trades.

  1. My third trade with Crod1991 yields two Michigan cards:

  2. My second trade with FiresNBeers includes Topps baseball set builders (1983, 1984, and 1991):

2018 Donruss football RCs for the set:

    Michigan basketball and football additions:

And a Julio Jones for the Bama collection:

  3. My first trade with mrmike consisted of nothing but Michigan football additions:

  4. My second trade with deasley_1 also included nothing but Michigan football cards:

  5. My first trade with rsemu included stacks of 1990 Upper Deck and 1991 Fleer set builders:

The House of Habsburg

Watching:  Flipping back and forth between Bruins vs Leafs on NBCSN and Pacers vs Celtics on TNT (waiting for Pistons-Bucks to tip shortly)

Busy sports night last night.  I was flipping back and forth through several games all night.  The 62 win Lightning were swept out of the first round.  Ouch.  The Isles swept the Pens.  OK in my book.  Christian Yelich continued his ridiculously hot start with a 3 run homer in the 5th vs the Cards.  The Magic-Raptors game was an absolute dud.

Today's Sol Pais saga dominated the online news while I was working.  I feel for all those school children and their parents in Colorado who had to deal with the stress of a potential Columbine repeat.  Can you imagine - school's closed today because of a potential mass shooting threat?  I feel for the girl's parents.  That must be such a helpless feeling to have your daughter just take off and learn she is the focus of an FBI manhunt.  And I feel for the girl.  I read some of the writings she left behind.  She was clearly a very bright girl; she wrote extremely well.  It was also very clear that she had some very dark thoughts and likely had a mental health condition.  It is sad that she took her own life, very sad, but at least no other lives were lost.

One package today, one that traveled approx. 5000 miles.  This is my first trade with TCDB member holhoa96 of Hungary.  Fairly straightforward trade; I sent some 2018 football in exchange for some late 90s basketball.  Set builders to start, including some Stadium Club (yea!):

And a pair of Michigan additions completes the trade:

The crazy thing is I have a couple of Canadian trades that were initiated at the same time as this Hungarian trade and those have yet to arrive.  The lag that exists in the cross-border US-Canada trades is pretty ridiculous given the proximity.  For example, driving to Dallas would take me a good two hours longer than driving to Toronto.  I could reach Calgary before I reach Disney World.  Does my PWE really need to take two weeks to get here?
