2 Trades & a Pay It Forward

Listening:  The Police Zenyatta Mondatta

How about that Pirates-Reds brawl last night?  Here’s what I don’t get; why hasn’t MLB done something about the benches clearing brawls?  I remember the NBA in the 1980s and 1990s when benches clearing brawls were not uncommon.  The league finally said, “You leave the bench; you’re suspended.”  Viola!  You don’t see this in the NFL.  Even in the NHL where fighting is allowed, guys don’t leave the bench.   The oddest thing is that guys enter the fray from the bullpens.  Odd.

I missed out on another Webber printing plate.  The bidding ended on Monday night at over $80.  That’s a big number for me.

I received two TCDB trades today.  My third trade with figgman adds two dozen cards to my 1990-91 Score Canadian set:

My fourth trade with Thunderfoot is another football affair and begins with some 1991 set builders:
Followed by one Hoard and six Toomer’s for the Michigan collection:
The trade concludes with a nice assortment of Bama football cards:

One bonus item to close the night.  I received an additional package yesterday but could not work my way through it until today.  Billy Kingsley sent me a nice PIF out of the blue comprised largely of basketball cards, with a few hockey cards thrown in:

Each and every card is a card I do not have.
The package included one more card...

Billy sent a Chris Webber base card that I did not have!  Thanks for the cards Billy, and helping build my Webber collection.

Two Canadian packages

Listening:  Mike Lawrence Sadamantium

Anything interesting happen on the TCDB forums in the past 48 hours?  Who knew the legitimacy of a small town Canadian house fire could rattle so many cages?

I received two packages today; both trades with Canadian TCDB members.  My second trade with sandyrusty leads off the night's recap and begins with some 1984 Topps set builders:

Completion rate is now up to 98.4%.  Getting so close.
The bulk of the trade is devoted to late 90s basketball set builders:

And again, Shawn Kemp is the king of cool 90s basketball cards:

The final card is a Tom Harmon for the Michigan collection:

Tonight's second package is my tenth, yes tenth trade with karsal.  Some basketball set builders from the first half of the 90s and four 2018-19 Hoops:

A few Michigan additions follow:

The trade concludes with a Yelich for Owen's collection:

Dave & Adam's - Part IV... Jabroni

Watching:  Cubs vs Brewers on Fox Sports Wisconsin

Today's lone package is my first trade with TCDB member cbcbdt90 and begins with a Rumeal Robinson insert for my Michigan collection:

The remainder of the small trade consists of 90s basketball set builders:

Tonight we conclude the unboxing of my recent Dave & Adam's purchase with the free gift.  I think I had eight options and none were overly exciting.  Since this was going to be a free pack/box of cards I thought, "What the hell?", and chose something completely different:

This is my first box of wrestling cards...ever.  I was a pretty devoted wrestling fan in the late 90s.  We attended a number of events in Milwaukee, including a WWE Pay-for-View, and even saw a show down in St, Louis while in town for a Cubs-Cardinals series.  I mentioned in previous posts I liked the Outsiders and DX, but I was also a huge fan of The Rock.  So much charisma.  Without furhter ado then, let's layeth the smacketh down on this box and see what's inside:

This is the lone card I will keep:

Finally, The People's Champ has been added to my collection.  If you smeeeeeeellllllll... what The Rock... is cookin'.  I will place the other cards on my For Trade list and hopefully they can find happy homes.

Dave & Adam's Box - Part III, and a small Yelich haul

Watching:  Up on Amazon Prime

A lot cover tonight; three TCDB trades, one eBay purchase, and the third installment of my Dave & Adam's purchase.  Let's roll...

Today’s first package is my fifth trade with 860502 and begins with a 1991 Fleer set builder:
The bulk of the trade is devoted to 90s basketball set builders:
A pair of 1992 Stadium Club football set builders:
A pair of Harbaugh’s for the Michigan collection:
The trade concludes with 33 Bama additions:

My second trade with joe0786 is up next and is comprised solely of Michigan football additions:

My first trade with slwcards is today’s third trade and kicks off with some 1991 Score set builders:
Then a Jon Vaughn for the Michigan collection:
And closes with a few 2019 baseball additions for Owen’s collection:

Today’s final package is a recent eBay purchase.  While searching for recent Christian Yelich listings I stumbled upon 2Bros788.  They had a promotion where they applied a 45% discount to your order if you purchased at least 25 cards.  And they had a flat shipping cost of $1.00.  So I stocked up, beginning with a LeVert RC for the Michigan collection:
Followed by some Michigan football additions:
The purchase wraps up with 25 2019 Yelich purchases, including some nice inserts and parallels.  Three even carry a SN:

Now on to Part III of my recent Dave & Adam's purchase.  Tonight's focus is basketball and tips off with twelve 2017-18 Essentials fat packs:

A big batch of base to start:

24 go toward building the set:

Nine Orange parallels:

The Essentials opening ends with inserts:

These inserts are pretty dull.

We then move on to 24 packs of 2017-18 Prestige:

We start with a bunch of base:

I already have the complete set so no base cards to add.  On to parallels and inserts:

And we close with a single hobby pack of 2016-17 Studio:

My sole motivation behind buying this single hobby pack was to hopefully pull a From Downtown insert.  I love those cards.  I already have cards 1-200 for the set so no base cards to add.  I pulled a Glossy parallel and a Harden insert:

Sadly, no From Downtown luck.

So that concludes my cheap basketball purchase.  Again, just like with last night's football boxes, I got what I paid for - nada.  Tomorrow night I will share the fourth and final installment of my Dave & Adam's purchase - the free gift!

Dave & Adam's Box - Part II

Listening:  INXS Kick

Daddy-daughter hike up the bluff this morning:

Two TCDB trades arrived today.  My first trade with suomibear8 leads off and included eight Michigan basketball additions:

And four Michigan football additions:

My fourth trade with Lugnut80 is devoted solely to basketball cards of the mid to late 90s.  We begin with an assortment of set builders:

The trade concludes with a single Michigan addition; a pretty sick Mo Taylor Press Pass insert:

Tonight we continue unpacking my recent Dave & Adam's purchase.  Our focus tonight - cheap 2018 football boxes.  Spoiler alert...  I pull absolutely nothing of note from any of these boxes.  Please feel free to stop reading now.

We start with a pair of Donruss hanger boxes; one green and one orange:

Lots of base cards...:

But sadly I only needed 19 of them for my set:

And I already each and every rookie.  My completion rate still sits at a paltry 74%.  Disappointing.
A snapshot of the inserts and parallels included in the two boxes:

The pair of 1988s are cool, aside from that though, not much of interest.
I picked up a Brady base for the Michigan collection:

A pair of base and one insert go toward the Bama collection:

In the end, pretty underwhelming.

Up next, I picked up a pair of Prestige hanger boxes:

A whole lot of base cards:

Only 11 go toward building the set:

Seven of the eleven are rookies so that is helpful, but still disappointing given my completion rate is still only 78%.
Only a handful of inserts:

I already have half of these so those are going on my For Trade list.
Ten Green parallels include:

Not a single Michigan card I needed in either box.  Only pulled two Bama base cards I needed:

Another disappointing pair of boxes.

Finally, my last cheap 2018 purchase is one Score blaster:

A big stack of base to begin:

I pulled only 13 I needed for the set, however, seven of those are rookies:

This brings my completion rate up to 83%.
A fair number of inserts and parallels:

I pulled a Showcase (blue) that is SN99.  Aside from that, fairly unimpressive.
A Mo Hurst rookie is the lone Michigan addition:

I did manage to pull eight Bama base cards I needed, including a trio of rookies:

So that's it for my cheap 2018 football purchases.  I guess you get what you pay for.
Tomorrow night's third installment will focus on cheap basketball packs.
